1950-1952
A really beautiful old score book(above) from the short-lived Ventura Braves of the Class C California League. The Braves were a Class C farm club of the National League's Boston Braves.
Though the Ventura Braves had a short stint in Ventura, they did inspire us to naming our club after them and continue the tradition of competitive baseball in Ventura.
30 years ago coaches Shap and Campa met while playing on the Santa Barbara Pony League All Star team. The two would become best friends and were inseparable throughout the formative years which included the historic year 2000 Santa Barbara High School varsity baseball team. Under Fred Warreckers leadership were channel league champions and CIF southern section runner ups that played at Dodger Stadium.
Though the two would take very different paths in life, coach Campa's journey was in the United States Marine Corps and coach Shap's was in the investment management business. In 2021 the two best friends rekindled their friendship, love of the game and desire to serve the local baseball community by forming the Ventura Braves Baseball Club.
The Ventura Braves coaching staff look to impart their knowledge of leadership, dedication, drive and life experiences earned to the next generations while providing a fun yet competitive outlet for local youth.
